My second daughter came into the world today 11 years ago. She is very sweet, intelligent, and extremely strong willed. She was almost born on my Grandpa’s birthday, which was the day before.
When I found out I was pregnant with her I knew I would have a girl, and I knew I’d name her Isabelle, which means “Devoted to God”.
With my first born I had a C-section, and with this pregnancy I wanted a VBAC, (vaginal birth after a cesarean). With my first born my C-section hurt so bad, got infected, and I was anemic.
When I found out I was pregnant with her I went to see a midwife in a doctors office. I told them I wanted a VBAC. During this pregnancy, I switched between 4 doctors. Then I saw online that the University hospital had water birth, so I went there, and they said that they wouldn’t let Mother’s with previous C-sections have water birth.
I was getting frustrated so I contacted a home birth mid-wife, and decided to have a home birth. I saw her for two months. Then I had an ultrasound, and found out that my stubborn little girl was breech presentation and I could not have a home birth. I tried everything to get that little girl to turn, chiropractor, acupuncture, and yoga poses. She wouldn’t turn.
So I went to Boulder Community Hospital to have her and saw midwives.
The day she was born: I woke up around 9 AM and I thought my water was leaking a tiny big. Well, I had an midwife appointment at 1 PM so I just thought I would bring it up to the midwife. I went to the midwife, and I said my cervix feels funny, can you check me for a UTI? She had me pee in a cup, but then she checked me for dilation. I was 4 centimeters dilated, and my water bag was right there at the cervix.
They gave me Pitocin right away with my first daughter at 3 cm, that is probably why I didn’t think I was in labor. I think I have a high pain threshold. I didn’t have a pattern or hardly any contractions.
So, off to the operating room I went. When I laid down for my C-Section, and they checked me I was 6 centimeters, I felt like she was going to fall out. I could obviously tell I was in labor, my contractions came every 2-3 minutes.
They gave me my spinal tap, and it made me light headed and feel funny. Soon my baby girl was here, and she was screaming her head off:
This is her big sister, they are 2 years and 9 months apart. Her big sister kept saying “It’s OK baby”, because Isabelle was screaming her head off.
My second C-Section with Isabelle wasn’t as painful, I didn’t get anemic, but I did get an infection.
I have been so blessed with both my daughters’. They have their own unique personalities and they seem so opposite. They are both going to go far in this life. <3
